In Memory of Fern Howze
April 18, 1931 - July 14, 2000
The City of Niederwald pauses today to
remember a fine lady, loyal friend and highly respected member of our
community, who devoted many years of her life to our City. A
member of the Democratic Party, Fern Howze began her career in city
government in 1987 on the Niederwald Planning Commission, then
continuing on to serve two years on the Niederwald City Council.
Her path then led her on to be elected to the position of Mayor in 1990,
where she spent eight years freely dedicating her time and energy to
making our city a better place for us, her neighbors, to raise our
families.
Although her husband, J.L. Howze, and she
never had children of their own, they knew well the meaning of family
values, having raised her niece and nephew and considering their
children to be their own grandchildren.
She was a member of the
Trinity United Church of Christ and the Niederwald Community
Organization. After being instrumental in the acquisition of the
land for Niederwald's city park and the building which is now our City
Hall, The City Council proudly dedicated the park to Mr. and Mrs. Howze
and officially named it the Fern and J.L. Howze Community Park.
One of our own has passed on, but her
memory lives on in our hearts and her accomplishments will forever be
represented in our City.
Funeral Services were held 10:00
a.m., Monday, July 17, 2000. Interment followed at the Oakwood Annex
Cemetery, under the direction of the Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home.
Reverend Carlson Jakubik of the Trinity United Church of Christ of

Jimmy Schmidt, Richard Schmidt, Fred Pittillo, Alvin Helmers, and Harold
